What is a SpecOps Folder?
The SpecOps Folder is an innovative recoil reducing folding pistol grip shotgun stock. It consists of a pistol grip that attaches to the receiver and a heavy-duty rubber coated steel wire frame stock that folds quickly and easily up over the top of the shotgun. The SpecOps Folder is the only recoil reducing folding stock available in the firearms industry.
How does it work?
When the shotgun is fired, the entire shotgun, along with the receiver extension (the top part of the grip), moves rearward an inch and a half. (The rear part of the trigger guard actually moves inside the grip.) As it moves rearward, it activates a roller and cam lever that is attached to a strong spring. As the spring is extended, it absorbs the energy of the recoil and slows the recoil cycle down dramatically. The energy in the spring is then used to pull the gun back into its original firing position.
What shotguns will it fit?
The SpecOps Folder is available for Remington® 12 and 20 gauge 870 Series pump shotguns along with the 7615, 7400, 7500, 7600, 740, 750 and 760 series rifles; all Mossberg® 500, 590, 835 variants, and Maverick 88 models; and the Winchester® 1300-1200 and FNH® standard Police Series pump shotguns (Stock will NOT fit FNH® Tactical Police Shotgun. ) SpecOps Folder is not compatible with semi-automatic shotguns.
Does it work when the stock is folded or just when it is open?
The recoil mechanism is housed in the pistol grip and works with the wire frame open or closed.
Why don’t you make them for my semi-auto shotgun?
Federal law prohibits the installation of pistol grip folding stocks on semiautomatic shotguns, as it would create an “Assault Weapon.” In addition, recoil-operated shotguns would not function due to the recoil-absorbing characteristics of the SpecOps Folder. Gas-operated semi-auto guns usually have a long bolt return spring in their butt stock.
Can I legally put this stock on my shotgun?
Yes, the SpecOps Folder is legal in all 50 states. Pump shotguns are specifically excluded from all “assault Weapon” laws. There is no such thing as a “pre-ban” pump shotgun and no laws restrict the installation, ownership and use of these stocks on legally owned pump shotguns.
Will it work with my ghost ring sight? What about a Side Saddle®?
The wire frame is designed to allow plenty of clearance for ghost ring or other sight systems, up to 1 7/8 inches wide. A Side Saddle® will interfere with the wire frame of the stock when attempting to fold it. With a Side Saddle® or similar ammunition carriers installed, the stock cannot be folded.
How much does it reduce recoil and muzzle flip?
The SpecOps Folder cuts perceived felt recoil by around 65%. Even small, light shooters can handle heavy magnum loads. Because of the 15-degree angle of travel on the receiver extension, muzzle flip is also reduced. This allows for rapid target reacquisition and more accurate second shots. Because the recoil mechanism is in the pistol grip, it works equally well with the stock open or folded. Many have shot magnum buckshot loads one-handed, with the stock folded…not something to try with any other pistol grip stock!
Can I use my oversized or extended safety with the SpecOps Folder?
Remington 870 owners should NEVER use an extended “Button Head” safety in conjunction with a SpecOps Folder . The extended size of the safety will cause major damage to the stock and potentially serious injury to the shooter. Oversized safety buttons are not an issue on guns that have receiver top mounted safety switches. Some oversized safeties are compatible with the SpecOps Folder, please contact Knoxx for available options and recommended models.
What is the length of pull (LOP) and overall dimensions of the SpecOps Folder when installed?
Length of pull is 14 inches. With a SpecOps Folder installed and folded over the receiver, the length from the front tip of an 18.5 inch barrel to the rear most point on the folding stock is 31.5 inches.
Is it difficult to install?
No. It takes a couple of minutes to remove your existing stock. Then, the SpecOps Folder attaches quickly with one factory pre-installed bolt. It can be done in less than five minutes. A correctly sized “ball end” Allen wrench is recommended for easy installation.
Can I attach a sling?
We recommend the MissionReady Sling available from Knoxx. It attaches easily to the wire frame and works well with the stock open or closed. A sling swivel stud is provided on the rear of the grip for the attachment of a sling swivel. |
