What is the Knoxx SpecOps Stock?
The SpecOps is the most popular of the Knoxx line of recoil reducing stocks. It solves two of the biggest problems facing shotgun users: recoil and length-of-pull.
What makes this stock reduce recoil better than other stocks?
The SpecOps incorporates two separate recoil-reduction devices. One system in the pistol grip that absorbs the majority of the recoil energy and a second one in the butt stock handles the rest. Similar pistol grip adjustable style stocks that attempt recoil reduction just from the rear portion of the stock are limited in their ability to reduce recoil. When a pistol grip shotgun is fired with the “rear only” recoil reduction method, the stock collapses in the rear and all the movement and corresponding recoil is transferred into the palm of the shooters hand grasping the pistol grip (Ouch!). With the SpecOps Stock the majority of the recoil is removed by the mechanism located inside the pistol grip, so there is no pain to the shooters hand or shoulder. The SpecOps Stock can be comfortably shot from the shoulder, from the hip and even one handed (Recoil NADA!).
What is the length-of-pull (LOP) on the SpecOps?
The SpecOps is instantly adjustable from a minimum of 11.25 inches to a maximum of 15.25 inches by pressing a lever and pulling or pushing the stock to the desired length. If the rubber butt pad is removed, the minimum is 11.25 inches with a maximum of 15.25 inches. The rubber pad can be removed with a Phillips screwdriver and the removal of two screws. The butt plate of the stock is highly textured to improve shooter control.
Can I use my oversized or extended safety with the SpecOps Stock?
Remington 870 owners should NEVER use an extended “Button Head” safety in conjunction with a SpecOps Stock . The extended size of the safety will cause major damage to the stock and potentially serious injury to the shooter. Extended safety buttons are not an issue on guns that have receiver top mounted safety switches. Some oversized safeties are compatible with the SpecOps Stock, please contact Knoxx for available options and recommended models.
Why is the SpecOps so “perfect” for law enforcement and military applications?
Recoil and LOP problems have long plagued the military and law enforcement. The military’s solution is the M4-style stock on the current issue M-16 and the SpecOps brings that solution to the shotgun platform. Now a 5’4” 120 pound soldier or officer can use the same shotgun as their 6’4” 220 pound partner. With the dramatic reduction in recoil, even the smallest officer or soldier can handle Magnum shotgun loads without flinching, injury or fear. Qualification scores will go up and the shotgun will be better utilized in the field as confidence and accuracy increases.
Is the SpecOps just for police and the military?
No, The SpecOps stock is perfect for:
Recreational Shooters – The ability to properly fit the stock to each shooter and reduce felt recoil to the point where it is no longer an issue makes the SpecOps stock the right choice for families and for target and competitive shooting.
Hunters – The same features that make the SpecOps ideal for law enforcement apply to hunters of all types. Deer hunters will enjoy better control of their shotgun and will find pre-season practice much more enjoyable, making them better shooters and resulting in more game for the freezer. Turkey hunters will love the shape and angle of the pistol grip that will make the hours of turkey calling and waiting much more comfortable. The recoil of the heaviest loads will be easy to handle, even with your back against a tree trunk with the SpecOps.
Home Defense – Experts in home defense all agree that the most important aspect of keeping a shotgun for home defense is user familiarity (that means practice.) The SpecOps allows for fear and pain-free practice that builds self-confidence. The adjustable LOP allows the stock to be properly fitted to each shooter. It can be stored in the collapsed position for easy placement and extended to the correct length, even in the dark.
Doesn’t this make my shotgun an assault weapon?
No. Pump shotguns are not regulated as “assault weapons,” only by federal and state regulations with regards to minimum barrel length, and overall length. The SpecOps, at its shortest length, still complies with federal and state laws.
What shotguns will it fit?
The SpecOps Stock is available for Remington® 12 and 20 gauge 870 Series pump shotguns along with the 7615, 7400, 7500, 7600, 740, 750 and 760 series rifles; all 12 and 20 gauge Mossberg® 500, 590, 835 variants, and Maverick 88 models; and all 12 and 20 Gauge Winchester® 1300-1200 and FNH® standard Police Series pump shotguns (Stock will NOT fit FNH® Tactical Police Shotgun). SpecOps Stock is not compatible with semi-automatic shotguns.
Is there a way to attach a sling?
Yes. The SpecOps stock comes with a sling swivel stud installed at the toe of the butt. In addition, there are two alternate mounting locations along with a slot through the stock to install a web sling. All sling mounting methods gives the shooter full utility with the stock mounted.
What accessories are available for the SpecOps?
For cheek height adjustment and extra ammo storage, check out the Knoxx Power Pak. In addition, please check the recommended accessories found on the SpecOps Stock Product Information Page.
Is it strong and durable?
The SpecOps is made from high strength fiberglass-reinforced polymers and metal alloys for long service in the most extreme environments. While ideal for civilian use, it has been designed and built for military and law enforcement professionals in the most demanding situations.
Is it legal? Yes. It is legal to install the SpecOps on any pump shotgun in all 50 states.
Can I replace the butt stock portion of the stock?
The SpecOps is not compatible with other M4-style stocks. The increased recoil energy generated by a shotgun requires the use of a heavier, sturdier tube than is found in standard M4-style stocks.
Is it difficult to install and use?
Once your factory stock is removed, the SpecOps installs by tightening one pre-installed bolt. Using the stock is intuitive and takes only seconds to figure out. Just squeeze the lever and set it to the LOP that works for you. There are five different settings available.
Anything else I need to know?
Yes, The SpecOps stock is the best stock on the planet!
